Kansas Ranchers Offer New Calf Chute

Portable chute sets up in corral corner and leaves calves standing with easy access for all processing.

Boaldin Livestock Enterprises has released a new product, the John-Ease Small Calf Chute.

The Boaldin family has designed, tested and perfected its new product on their 3-Point Ranch at Elkhart, Kan., and on the Boaldin Ranch near Dighton, Kan.

This chute features a new technique for more efficient handling of small calves with less stress on calf and operator, lightweight mobility and one-man, no-fatigue processing. You'll need no alley to fight small calves through and no processing crew.

Portable chute sets up in corral corner and leaves calves standing with easy access for all processing.

Set the chute up in a corral corner and guide calves along the fence past the chute's swing gate. The calf will turn back away from the corner and toward the head gate. The operator then swings the chute's lightweight gate in to capture the calf. As the gate swings shut the calf will stick its head through the opening and be caught by the spring-loaded head catch.

Calves are always on their feet in this unit. It is designed for calves up to 60 days of age.

A drop-down door gives vaccination access and models are available for left or right side access. There is also plenty of access on either side for branding.

It is a portable unit that can moved by one man like a two-wheel dolly on no-flat tires. The chute also has an expanded-metal tool basket on one side and places to hang bulk bags such as those containing pour-on products and a special bucket to hold an electric branding iron.
